Right in the heart of Amsterdam, there is a little store packed with Dutch design: Locals. At Locals, you will find mainly fashion accessories and home deco by local designers and brands, as well as the “inhouse” brand, Sugarz, jewelry. Suzanne Hof is the proud owner.
“After graduating from art school – I studied illustrational design – I decided to travel around the world. Several jobs and many wanderings later, it turned out that the creative bug wouldn’t let go of me. This is how my own label, Sugarz jewelry, came to be, ten years ago today! Inspiration to create can be found anywhere and everywhere: in a novel, on the street, in music. I love working with ideas, atmosphere, colors and shapes. All these elements are used in the design of jewelry. At first, the collections were only sold through other stores, like De Bijenkorf.
When the opportunity arrived to open my own store, I realized there is so much local design talent in Holland, it made sense to look in that direction for products. It feels good to support local designers and small labels. The world doesn’t need anymore mass production of disposable products!
Our products tell a special story, are often handmade, authentic and have quality.When you buy something at my shop, you know it’s made under sustainable conditions and you support our local community. At Locals, I personally help the customer to find exactly the right accessory to compliment an outfit, or the perfect gift for a friend. We also design custom made jewelry for that special occasion, in your favourite color and shape. This way, shopping at Locals becomes a lovely experience for all your senses!”
